United Kingdom: The Place to Travel in 2023
Travel and Leisure have recently deemed the United Kingdom the place to be in 2023. Has England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland been on your radar? Now is the time to book your air and reach out to your favorite travel advisor (me) to plan new adventures in old places.
Here are a few suggestions for your 2023 pursuits.
Kent
Skip Tuscany and Bordeaux this summer: There’s a stellar – and under-the-radar – a wine-tasting region ripe for discovery in the United Kingdom. With only a handful of big names in English wine, most travelers are surprised to find that there are hundreds of wineries around England, from the sunny Isles of Scilly to Kent’s chalky cliffs and even as far north as the Yorkshire Wolds. Kent, a bucolic county an hour’s drive southeast of London making it an easy day trip, has a beautiful coastline, a top-notch culinary scene, and a heavy concentration of wineries.
London
For obvious reasons, London is an awesome option, especially for a family summer vacation, as there are no language barriers. The Changing of the Guard is an iconic experience; in which working with your favorite travel advisor can provide exclusive access to the parade ground to watch the ceremony, followed by a guided tour of the Guard Museum to try on its replica uniforms and hats. Another must: a director-led look at the Churchill War Rooms below Westminster, where you can step inside the actual Cabinet room and sit in Churchill’s chair!
Scotland
With a wide selection of activities perfect for all ages, The Gleneagles Hotel is an ideal location for a family vacation. An iconic country estate, Gleneagles has been a luxury destination for nearly a century. Located just an hour’s drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh airports, it offers the perfect five-star retreat for those looking for relaxation and adventure in every season. The 850-acre estate epitomizes Scotland’s rugged natural beauty with a glorious playground of pursuits. Whether you visit to play three championship golf courses, try falconry with a Harris hawk, ride horses, play tennis, go off-roading, train gundogs, enjoy Michelin-starred dining, or relax in an award-winning spa, Gleneagles offers a world of unforgettable experiences.
Coastal UK
Can’t decide on one region to visit? Why not see a few with a coastal UK cruise with Aurora Expeditions?
Discover some of the United Kingdom’s most historically significant and wildlife-rich destinations on this voyage from Portsmouth to Aberdeen. With numerous islands located in the Atlantic Ocean, a vast amount of the UK coastline is ideal for exploration by ship. In England, Wales, and Scotland, there are designated Heritage Coasts, some of which fall within national parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and some standalone coastal strips that are protected simply because they are part of a particular location’s heritage. Stroll through charming fishing villages, visit majestic castles, cathedrals, historical homes, and gardens, encounter magnificent archaeological sites, witness a dazzling array of birds, and soak up the remarkable history of a land that has been continuously inhabited for over 5,000 years.
There are some pretty fabulous promotions for this cruise at present, reach out for more information.
